The week started with the much anticipated game between #2 Gorman vs. #3 Clark, from the Tip-off it was nip and tuck. The leadership of the big 3 showed up with Jamal Bey being very Physical on both ends of the floor, the strong play of point guard Christian Popoola Jr. knocking down jumpers, attacking the basket very aggressively was the difference. Chuck O’Bannon was the long range sniper, knocking down a key 3 ball in the 4th quarter. Clark showed they are one of the top 3 teams in Las Vegas. There is no back down from this team. Mr. Trey Woodbury is one of the Top 3 players in his c/o 2018 and he played that way.

But at the end of the day Gorman took the air out of a very good Clark team. I look forward to the rematch Jan. 31, 2017 at Gorman. It will be a Dog Fight!!

Desert Pines was picked to win their division, but it seems like Cheyenne has something to say about that. I believe that Cheyenne has one of the most underrated players in the Valley, 6’2″ PG Kavon Williams. He led his team to victory with 16 points (56-52) , and the added addition of 6’2″ D’Andre Houston was big for this program who looks like they will compete for the division.

On Thursday, I had an opportunity to make my way over to Canyon Springs high to see the Pioneers take on the Clark Chargers. That saying that goes NO DAYS OFF, well the Chargers fall within that category taking on a very feisty Canyon Team, that has one of the best PG in Las Vegas 5’6′ Chris Hawkins. If you have not seen this young fella then you are missing a treat!!!

The size of Clark was too much and on that night 6’5 SG James Bridges in the 2nd half showed up and showed out. The rebounding of 6’5″ Antwon Jackson was big and 6’5″PG Sedrick Hammonds played a very solid game especially defense. 6’6″Jalen Hill ran the floor well and got some easy transition buckets. In the end, Clark got out of there with a tough win 74-57.

Close out the week with a rival game between The Meadows and Agassi Prep. Last year this was one of my Top #5 games of the year. Once again it was a dog fight, Najeeb Muhammad got the game going by scoring the first 6 of the 11 points. This was a very tough team win with Najeeb Muhammad being plagued with foul trouble, small forward Allen Merritt stepped up big time and came through at the end with the game winning basket 57-55.

As you can see there were some good games to start the New Year. This week, we will start with Foothill taking on Liberty. Foothill has two very good guards in 6’4″ (PG) Marvin Coleman and 6’5″ (SG) Jace Roquemore, so come out and support these young hoopers in Las Vegas!! VEGAS ALL DAY! I THOUGHT YOU KNEW! WE REP OUR CITY!!
