The Demographics of Las Vegas have changed over the years. I have been in Las Vegas for some time now, and I remember the arrival of schools like; Durango,Cheyenne, Green Valley, Cimarron Memorial, Canyon Springs, and Mojave. The relocation of Bishop Gorman and Las Vegas High school, were changes that still have an effect on the older schools that exists.

The pride of Chaparral High school, and their commitment to their student athletes, is first priority. Last season, the Cowboys played very well going 21-7 (10-0) in their League. This season will be different, due to the departure of 8 Seniors. Much will rely on 1st team all-conference Jonathan Tendale who averages 14.1 ppg,3.5 rpg, and 2.3 apg with 44 steals.

Coach Steven Bentz is in his 5th season with the Cowboys. This year he will need role players to step up and make plays. Last season the Hallmark for this program was on defense, they created a lot of turnovers and made plays in transition. I had an opportunity to sit down with Coach Bentz and talk a little bit about this basketball season. Here is the interview.

I had an opportunity to meet a good person Coach Jason Wilson of Las Vegas high school. One thing I quickly notice about him, he’s committed to getting the most out of his players. Last season, this program fell on some tough times with the lost of 6’6 WF Marquise Raybon. They finished 13-13 and 4-4 in their League. They will rely on senior 5’10” PG Donovan Joyner who average 15.3 ppg,5.6 rpg, and 3.5 assist a game. This program is looking to bounce back with hard work and dedication! Over the years, the Las Vegas Wildcats have had good players like Ray Smith, P.J. Savoy and Devon Colley just to name a few.

Coach Wilson is very optimistic about this upcoming season, I look forward to covering the Wildcats this season. Here’s our sit-down interview with Coach Wilson.

Unit 1 Hoop Source is the only independent High School and Grassroots Basketball publication in Las Vegas!

I would personally like to thank: Coach Bentz and Coach Wilson for allowing me to come in and highlight their programs!
