Checking in on girls high school basketball around the country. As we continue to survey the landscape of high school basketball. I will take a break from regurgitating information that is constantly circulating on the boys side from a national standpoint.
If you are not familiar with 2022 5’8″ point guard Kailyn Gilbert out of (FL), let me bring you all up to speed. Last season, Gilbert was named the Florida Dairy Farmers Class 3A player of the year. She led the State of Florida in scoring last season averaging 32.1 points and 11.2 rebounds pre games. She also finished 5th in scoring on a national level.
Kailyn, has the ability to operate at a high level. She is definitely a bucket getter! At 5’8 she’s a strong guard that is effective in transition. As I took time to break down her film. The first thing that jumped off the screen was Gilbert ability to get downhill quick and finish through traffic.
Her dribble penetration and body control as a finisher is above average. Kailyn is always in attack mode; never giving the opposition an opportunity to rest! She plays with pace and her mid-range jump shot is a problem for the opposition.
Kailyn is more than a scoring guard. She has great court vision as a passer. Her role on her team requires her to exert a lot of energy on the offensive side of the ball. At the next level; I believe Kailyn can become an elite distributor! Defensively she has good hands and is not afraid to mix it up. There is definitely a lot to like about this young lady game!
There is definitely uptick in her recruitment. At the current moment she is being recruited by Penn State and Vanderbilt. ESPN HoopGurlz Super 60 have “Kailyn”ranked as the 18th best player in the class of 2022
