Let’s not waste a lot of time, Let’s get right down to business! A few weeks back while I was in Georgia, I had an opportunity to see a young guard that plays with a lot of intensity and hustle.
2023 6’0 170 pound guard Kanaan Carlyle of Alpharetta, Georgia shows the ability that he can get it done on both ends of the floor. His intensity and high motor shows me that every play he takes it personal.
It’s still early in the assessment of these young player’s in the class of 2023, many still need to develop in a lot of areas. But, there is definitely one thing you can’t teach which is fight!
Carlyle is on pace to be one of the top guards in his class. His perimeter skills create problems for the opposition. Carlyle shows good mobility and playing skills in transition. He also has the ability to switch gears and finish through contact.
I was impressed with Carlyle’s ability to come off screens with his mid-range shot. He’s a solid ball handler that plays with pace and demonstrates very good court awareness at times. He’s a 3 level player with a good basketball IQ.
On the defensive side of the ball, this is where I believe Kanaan thrives the most. He has very good lateral movement and shows the ability to take away angles when defending.
Kanaan has active hands and plays the passing lanes very well! He creates opportunities for his teammates. Personally, I believe Kanaan has the potential to be an elite defender if he commits himself!
247Sports has Kanaan nationally ranked 17th in his class. He has been offered by Auburn, Florida, and Georgia Tech. The University of Kentucky has also shown interest.
