Over the years fans throughout New Jersey have been treated to some of the best young talent in the country. As I have said in previous articles. The tri-state high school basketball area is very competitive.
Players like Kyle Anderson (St. Anthony), Scottie Lewis, (Ranney), Karl-Anthony Towns, (St. Joseph) are players that have left there mark all over the game. The last big name to come out of Gill St. Bernards; is The Three-Time All-State selection Paul Mulcahy. Where he averaged a triple-double for a season.
2023 6’7” 185 pound small forward Mackenzie Mgbako of Gill St. Bernards, (NJ) definitely “Got Next”. 24/7 Sports has Mgbako Nationally ranked 13th, and the 3rd best rank player in the class of 2023 in New Jersey. Last season he average 14.1 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 2.1 assists pre game.
MaxPreps voted Mackenzie on the 2019-20 Boys Basketball Freshman All-American Team. At 6’7 Mackenzie has good size for a wing player. He has good mobility and his perimeter skills are above average. He can shoot off the bounce. His shooting allows him to stretch the floor with spacing.
Mackenzie has good hand eye coordination. He’s long and productive on both-ends of the floor. On the defensive side of the ball Mackenzie is disruptive. His length and size can be a problem for opposing opponents.
Overall there is a lot to like about this young player and the crazy part; he’s just getting started!
At the current moment McKenzie is being recruited by Auburn, Georgetown, Maryland, Bryant, Rutgers, Seton Hall St. John’s, and TCU just to name a few.
